How you can help build a Stronger Spirit, Stronger Community! A small commitment of time could make a big difference in the life of someone today and in the future.
Community partners are critical to NCCF®, providing over 20% of the agency’s resources. Our vision and mission rely heavily on partnerships with over 800 volunteers throughout the metropolitan region, donating time, talent, goods, and financial resources.
Volunteer mentors provide important therapeutic support to adolescents who are challenged to find their vocational identity and prepare for participation in the workforce. Big Buddies, our high school volunteers, provide tutoring and recreation activities to school-aged children from our shelter whose early years are marked by disrupted housing and school instability. There are countless ways to help — including answering the phone, helping in the kitchen, participating in landscape projects, and working on a committee.
Volunteer Opportunites
- Be a Childcare Assistant or Tutor – Play a game, read a book, or assist a child or adult with their schoolwork. A great opportunity for teens, college students, and retirees.
- Be a Mentor – Help an adolescent who needs a caring committed adult in their life. A one-on-one mentor relationship will help an adolescent develop interpersonal skills, talent, and confidence. A great opportunity for young professionals.
- Teach Computer Skills – Help a child or adult become computer literate in graphic design, spreadsheets, power point, and word processing. Work one-on-one or teach a class.
- Lend Your Professional Skills – Financial advisor, health care provider, beautician, spiritual leader, photographer, journalist, lawyer, grant writer, public relations expert, gardener, artist, or yoga instructor. The possibilities are endless!
- Help Us Fix Up – Assist with landscaping, painting, and all around beautification. Help keep NCCF a warm and inviting place. A great opportunity for groups.
- Sponsor an Activity – Organize a holiday party, puppet show, arts & craft project, mini carnival — or donate tickets to a sporting event or show. These special activities and outings are a treat for our youth and families, and a big morale boost in difficult times. A great opportunity for groups.
- Be an Office Assistant – Help out in NCCF’s Bethesda office by assisting with large mailings, data entry, filing, making copies, and acting as our lunchtime receptionist. An easy way to get involved, and it helps our staff be more effective with the children, youth, and families we serve.
- Sponsor an In-Kind Drive – Organize a supply drive for art projects, summer camp, school, infants, or the holidays. Visit NCCF’s website for updates and additional ideas. A great opportunity for groups
All qualified NCCF volunteers must be at least 14 years old, complete a volunteer application, a confidentiality agreement, a guidelines and procedures agreement, and attend an orientation and training. Except for special events, all NCCF volunteer opportunities are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Please be aware that opportunity times vary throughout the day.
