2008
Dr. Sheryl Brissett-Chapman receives the KFC Pride 360° Award for her willingness to make a difference in the lives of others, and the desire to put the good of the community before her own needs. Her selfless contributions to individuals, and to society as a whole, are an inspiration to everyone.
2007
On June 22, 2007, Dr. Sheryl Brissett-Chapman was honored with the Consortium for Child Welfare’s Rhoda Veney Award for Outstanding Child Welfare Administrator and Mark Hecker, a social worker in NCCF’s Foster Care Division, was named the Consortium’s Social Worker of the Year.
2006
On June 21, 2006, Ms. Ella Lewis, a foster parent with NCCF, was recognized as Foster Parent of the Year by the Consortium for Child Welfare (CCW). Mr. Dontae Mitchell, a client of NCCF’s CARA House program, was selected as CCW’s Birth Parent of the Year for overcoming difficult obstacles toward becoming a positive model for his young daughter.
On January 13, 2006, the Montgomery County Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Committee selects NCCF’s Executive Director, Dr. Sheryl Brissett-Chapman, for honorable mention at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute.
2005
Brown University Service to Society, John Hope Award for Public Service: Sheryl Brissett-Chapman, Brown University ’71, LICSW, ACSW
Sheryl’s commitment to children at risk is more than a career choice—it is her life’s work. Brissett-Chapman is a model for anyone whose vision is the betterment of the human condition.
Through innovative practices, Brissett-Chapman has created healthy and supportive environments for children and youth. As a biological and adoptive mother of five, she has a personal interest in children living in foster and adoptive care, and she has dedicated much of her professional life to serving that cause. Joyce Higashi, executive director of the D.C. Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, which gave Brissett-Chapman a Lifetime Achievement Award this year, said: “Dr. Brissett-Chapman believes social workers must lend their voice to the voiceless. She has devoted her career to children, youth, and families at risk for entanglement in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems.†READ MORE!!!!
On August 6, 2005, the National Association of Social Workers honors NCCF’s Executive Director, Dr. Sheryl Brissett-Chapman, with its Lifetime Achievement Award.
On June 29, 2005, the Consortium for Child Welfare (CCW) honors Shannon Catanzaro, LCSW-C, a social worker with NCCF’s Greenleaf Treatment Foster Care Program, as the Social Work Supervisor of the Year for 2005. Zabrina Morris, an extraordinary mother who through diligence and hard work regained the custody of her seven children, is honored as Birth Parent of the Year for 2005.
On May 6, 2005, the DC Metro Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers honors NCCF’s Executive Director, Dr. Sheryl Brissett-Chapman, with its Lifetime Achievement Award. NASW also honors NCCF Manager of Treatment Foster Care and Adoptive Services, Ralph D. Belk, LICSW,LCSW-C, as the Social Work Administrator of the Year.
2004
On September 8, 2004, the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute names NCCF’s Executive Director, Dr. Sheryl Brissett-Chapman, an Angel in Adoption for 2004.
On July 9, 2004, the Consortium for Child Welfare names NCCF’s Executive Director, Dr. Sheryl Brissett-Chapman, Outstanding Child Welfare Administrator of the Year.
