A small commitment of your time furthers our mission to help build a stronger community. By contributing your ideas and talents, you can directly connect with children and families in need.
From mentoring, to sorting goods, to cooking, there are countless ways and opportunities for you to contribute, but there are are three steps to take before you can begin volunteering with NCCF.

1. Childcare Assistant/Homework Helper
Play a game, read a book, or lead an arts and crafts activity. Childcare time slots can vary based on location, special events, and daily activities. We urgently need Volunteers at the Greentree shelter on Wednesdays and Thursday evening from 7:00-8:00 PM.

Assist our children, youth or adult clients with their homework and/or with preparing for a major exam (Greentree Adolescent Program (GAP), Greentree Shelter (GTS), New Beginnings, and JC Nalle). Tutoring takes place for GTS from 4:00-6:00 PM on Monday through Thursday.

3. Freedom School Volunteer
In partnership with the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF), The National Center for Children and Families operates a Freedom School after-school enrichment program and summer camp inside the DC General Family Shelter in Southeast DC. Volunteers serve as Read-Aloud Special Guests and participate in weekly workshops on children’s developmental needs, civic responsibility, and other topics. Volunteers also work with Freedom School parents during drop in sessions to provide academic, financial, and workforce development support, information, networking opportunities, and resource sharing. Freedom School volunteers must be 18 years of age and approved through the volunteer coordinator. 4. Donation Center and Dr. C’s Boutique
NCCF needs your help in our donations center, Dr. C’s Boutique, at the Bethesda Campus. This is a crucial part of NCCF’s mission, as it helps us get the resources to clients who need them. This is ideal for SSL hours for students. Hours are Monday-Friday from 9:00-5:00 PMSIGN UP HERE!
5. Kitchen Crew
Help us clean and organize our kitchen areas to help better serve our client’s delicious and nutritious meals. Kitchen shifts are Monday-Friday 10:00-1:00 PM and 2:00-5:00 PM. You can also help serve dinner from 6:00-7:00 PM every weeknight.SIGN UP HERE!
6. Administrative Support
Greet visitors, assist with filing and mailings, and help maintain our database. This opportunity is Monday through Friday from 9:00-5:00 PM.SIGN UP HERE!
7. Life Skills Leader
Many of our programs host weekly workshops for clients on important life skills. This can be anything from financial planning to personal care, organization, communication, and social skills. All of our programs offer life skills workshops for clients during the week.
8. Campus Beautification
Assist with landscaping, painting, and all around beautification. Help keep NCCF a warm and inviting place. A great opportunity for group or for Corporate events or “Days of Service” and can be done in both DC and Maryland locations.
9. Share your Professional Skills
Lead an event or a workshop in your area of expertise. Are you a financial advisor, health care provider, beautician, spiritual leader, photographer, journalist, lawyer, or sports instructor? The possibilities are endless. We will work with you to find your niche and create an incredible event or program.
10. Sponsor an Activity
Organize a holiday party, crafts project, sporting activity. These special activities bring joy and create unforgettable memories for the children, youth and families at NCCF. Great for Corporate events or “Days of Service” and can be done in both DC and Maryland locations.
11.Friday Music Lessons

NCCF welcomes corporations of all shapes and sizes. Corporate volunteering projects at NCCF are a great way to foster team building, and to show your commitment to giving back to the community. Service projects can be as involved as you would like to make them, with projects ranging from painting a room, to grounds beautification, to wrapping christmas presents.
